Difference between Mobile & Modular Homes

Mobile homes and modular homes have some characteristics in common. For starters, both home types are built in factories and transported to the destination where they will be installed for residential purposes. However, knowing the few distinctions that separate these two property types is vital for many reasons, such as understanding the appropriate insurance policy to obtain for the property. If homeowners cannot identify their property with the correct term, they may get the wrong insurance quote.

Mobile homes are typically designed according to the US Housing and Urban Development specifications, and they are delivered in single pieces. Modular homes, on the other hand, need to satisfy the local building codes in the state and county where the property is located. Also, Modular homes are often delivered in two or more pieces and typically resemble stick-built houses in features and sizes. Most modular homes are built on basements or crawlspaces. On the other hand, mobile homes are usually anchored by metal frames.
